I sometimes end up with posterization in dark areas. How to handle this?
Easiest is to move the black slider to the right in camera raw, this can have undesirable effects in other areas of the picture. Sometimes I apply noise reduction in the dark area only--this seems to work better than blurring which can destroy texture. In camera raw, noise reduction is global so I do this with Neat Image on a separate layer.
