Assorted hockey at the Moosonee Arena on 2008 November 20th. All pictures shot with a 300mm lens (no zoom), iso 1600 or 3200, one ice speed of 1/250 to 1/400, no flash, a few shots of spectators. This pictures in this gallery were generated in Lightroom (i.e. quickly). I found working with the fixed focal length lens interesting but ultimately limiting (e.g. I shot from one corner of arena, the 300mm (effective focal length 490mm) could only cover a player from head to toe past the blue line. In the past I shot hockey mostly with a 70-200mm zoom and will probably do that again. The arena seems darker than in the past and I learned that the wattage of the lights had been reduced from 1000w to 750w each.
